# Manage your device

Everything here lives under **My vploq** in the app.

## Rename

Names are for you: "Living Room", "Office". Between 1 and 25 characters.

Only the owner of a device can rename it. If a vploq is shared with you, you
see its name but cannot change it.

## Firmware updates

The device checks in and reports its firmware version. The app shows one of:

- **Up to date** — nothing to do
- **Update available** — a newer version exists, with the version numbers shown
- **Awaiting first check-in** — the device has not reported yet; normal right after setup
- **Firmware status unknown** — no recent report; see [troubleshooting](/support/troubleshooting)

To install an available update, press and **hold** for five seconds. The hold is
deliberate: an update reboots the device, which drops every connection through
it, so it should not be possible to start one by brushing the screen.

Only the owner can start an update. If one is already on its way, the app says
so rather than queueing a second.

An interrupted update does not brick the device — it keeps the previous
firmware and boots back into it.

## Sending diagnostics

If support asks for logs, **Send diagnostics** shares them from the device.

- The logs are retained for up to 30 days, then deleted
- The action is rate limited; if you press it repeatedly the app tells you how long to wait
- Nothing is sent unless you press it

## Releasing a device

If you are giving a vploq away or selling it, release it first — see
[your data](/account/your-data). Releasing unbinds it from your account so the
next owner can activate it. Until it is released, it cannot be claimed by
anyone else.
