Short answers to common questions. For the full picture, each section links to a

## Getting started

### What is vploq?
vploq is a private network client. Together with a vploq device on your home
network, it gives your phone, tablet and laptop a secure, always-available link
back to your own home, and to anyone you have shared a team with. See
[how vploq works](/learn/how-vploq-works).

### What do I need?
A vploq device on your home network, an account, and the vploq app on at least
one of your devices. You can pick up a device from [vploq.com](https://vploq.com/).

### Which platforms is the app on?
iPhone, iPad, Android, macOS and Windows. There is no web version, because vploq
is a VPN and browsers cannot open a system-level VPN tunnel. Linux is not
supported at the moment. Your account, teams and devices follow you across every
platform.

## Account and sign-in

### How do I sign in?
With your email and password, or with Google. New to vploq? Choose **Sign Up**
and create an account first. See [install the app](/setup/install-the-app#signing-in).

### Why do I have to verify my email?
Verifying keeps your account safe and lets us send password-reset and
team-invitation links. Open the message we sent and tap the link; the app picks
it up automatically. This is only for email-and-password accounts, and Google
sign-in does not ask for it.

### I did not get the verification email
Check your spam folder first. If it is not there, tap **Resend email** on the
verification screen, though you may need to wait a few seconds before the button
is available. If it still does not arrive, write to
[support@vploq.com](mailto:support@vploq.com).

### I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, tap **Forgot password?** and enter your email; we send a
link to set a new one. The link expires after a short while, so request a fresh
one if it stops working.

### I am locked out after too many attempts
We pause sign-in briefly after several failed attempts to protect your account.
Wait for the on-screen countdown, then try again. Unsure of your password? Use
**Forgot password?**.

### How do I change my password?
Open the Profile tab and tap **Change password**; you will need your current
one. If you signed up with Google, you have no password, and your Google account
controls sign-in.

### How do I sign out?
Profile tab → **Sign out**. This also disconnects the VPN on this device, but
leaves your devices and teams untouched. Sign back in any time.

## Setting up a device

### How do I set up my vploq for the first time?
Plug the device in, open the app, and follow the on-screen setup: tap it against
your phone to read its identity (NFC), let it update if needed, name it, and it
is ready. Full walkthrough: [set up your vploq](/setup/set-up-your-vploq).

### Why does setup use NFC?
Tapping your phone against the device proves you are physically next to it, and
is how the activation is handed over securely. NFC is built into all modern
iPhones and most Android phones.

### My phone keeps saying "try again" when I tap
Hold the back of your phone flat against the marked `〜` spot and keep it still
until the app confirms. On iPhone, NFC sits near the top edge; on Android,
usually the middle of the back. Remove a thick or metal-plated case.

### My phone has no NFC. Can I still set up a device?
Yes. The app falls back to finding the device on your local network, so put your
phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi as the vploq and follow the prompts. If your
router has DHCP disabled the device will not appear automatically; write to
[support@vploq.com](mailto:support@vploq.com) and we will help you set a static
IP.

### Setup is downloading an update. Is that normal?
Yes. New devices often ship on older firmware and update themselves during
setup. Keep the device powered and connected; it continues automatically when
the update finishes.

### Setup failed or got stuck
Tap **Retry**, since most failures are transient. If retrying twice does not
help, unplug the device, wait ten seconds, plug it back in, and start again. See
[what each message means](/setup/set-up-your-vploq#if-activation-does-not-work).

## Connecting

### How do I turn the VPN on?
Open the Connect tab, pick the device or team you want to reach, and tap the
power button. See [connecting](/using/connecting).

### It keeps switching between "connecting" and "disconnected"
Usually the app reaches our service but the tunnel itself cannot form, often
because of a captive-portal Wi-Fi (hotel, café) or a firewall blocking WireGuard
(UDP). Try a different network to confirm, then ask whoever runs the blocking
network to allow WireGuard.

### Does the VPN keep running when I close the app?
Yes. Once on, the tunnel keeps running in the background until you turn it off,
even after the app is swiped away or the phone restarts.

### Can I reach my printer or smart-home devices while connected?
Yes. By default, traffic to devices on your local Wi-Fi bypasses the tunnel.
Change this under **Preferences → Local network access**. See
[local network access](/using/local-network-access).

### Does the VPN drain my battery?
vploq uses WireGuard, one of the most efficient VPN protocols, so the impact is
small. Unusual drain is usually a sign of an unstable connection that keeps
reconnecting; try a different network, or write to
[support@vploq.com](mailto:support@vploq.com).

## Teams

### What is a team?
A group of people who share access to one or more vploq devices. The owner
invites members, and everyone in the team can connect through the team's
devices. See [teams](/teams/managing-teams).

### How are seats counted?
Each member uses one seat, no matter how many of their own phones, tablets or
laptops they sign in on. Removing a member frees their seat immediately.

### How do I invite someone?
Teams tab → your team → **Invite**, enter their email, and send. They get a link
that opens straight into the app and accepts the invitation.

### Can I be in more than one team?
Yes. The Teams tab lists every team you belong to, and on the Connect screen you
choose which team's device to route through.

### I was removed from a team and the VPN switched off. Is that a bug?
No, that is by design. When you lose access to a team, the app disconnects from
that team's devices and returns you to the device picker.

### How do I leave a team?
Open the team and tap **Leave team**; your seat is freed immediately. Owners
cannot leave without [transferring ownership](/teams/managing-teams#ownership)
first.

## Privacy and security

### How is my traffic encrypted?
vploq uses WireGuard, a modern and audited VPN protocol, to encrypt the tunnel
between your app and your vploq home device. Each device has its own keys, and
we never see your traffic in the clear. See
[what stays private](/learn/how-vploq-works#what-stays-private).

### Does vploq log what I do online?
No. Traffic flows through your own vploq home device, not through us. We keep a
minimal amount of operational data (account email, device names, connection
events) needed to run the service, and the [privacy policy](/privacy) has the
full list.

### Where can I read the privacy policy?
It is linked from the Profile tab, and lives at [/privacy](/privacy).

## Support

### The VPN refuses to connect on this network
Most often the network blocks WireGuard (UDP). Try a phone hotspot to confirm:
if it works there, the problem is the original network's firewall, not vploq.
Hotel, airport and corporate Wi-Fi commonly do this.

### Notifications are not arriving
Open **Preferences → Permissions** and allow notifications. On iPhone, also
check Settings → Notifications → vploq. Some Android battery-saver modes delay
notifications until you open the app.

### How do I contact support?
Email [support@vploq.com](mailto:support@vploq.com). Include your account email,
your platform, and roughly what you saw, and we will get back to you as soon as
we can.
