# Install the app

The app is how you connect, and it is also how you set up a new device — so
install it before unboxing anything.

| Platform | Where |
| --- | --- |
| iPhone and iPad | App Store |
| Android | Google Play |
| macOS | Mac App Store |
| Windows | Download from [vploq.com](https://vploq.com/) |

## Signing in

You sign in with an email address. The first time, the app sends a message to
that address to confirm it is yours.

Your account is what ties your devices and your teams together. Signing in on a
second phone or a laptop shows you the same devices — you do not set anything
up twice.

## Permissions the app asks for

**VPN configuration.** Required. The operating system will not let any app
route traffic without it, and it is what the connect button switches on. If you
decline it, connecting fails with a message asking you to enable it in
Settings.

**Local network access** (iOS and macOS). Optional, and only needed if you want
to reach devices on the network you are *currently* on. See
[local network access](/using/local-network-access).

**Notifications.** Optional. Used for team invitations and for telling you when
something needs attention.

**NFC** (iPhone and Android). Used once, during setup, to read the identity of
a new vploq device by holding your phone against it.
